It is actually my first time to go to a mosque, not to think it will be a grand one. Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque must have been on the top of the list of the most visited place in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
Adjacent to the roadway, it is very accessible to public transportation. One can actually just ride a bus and few walks to reach the place. Entrance to the mosque is free. The only thing you need to pay is respect – respect the religion, respect the worshippers, and respect their house of prayer.
There is strict dress code especially for the women. All are required to wear the traditional Abaya and Shayla before entering the mosque. If you don’t have one, it will be provided for free but must be returned after.
The traditional Islamic design of the arches, carpets, golds and pure white color of the mosque has been one of the distinguish characteristic of it making it one of the most sought destination in the capital of United Arab Emirates.
Visiting hours for tourists on Fridays is limited between 4:30 PM to 10:00 PM only since worshipers gather in the morning to pray together. Most especially on one of the significant event for our Muslim brothers and sisters, Ramadan, the mosque is closed on Fridays for visitors.
